**Updated 7 October 2026:** Hyundai Australia has confirmed the all-new Hyundai Tucson will be sold here with a hybrid powertrain only, arriving in mid 2027. Our original report said a stronger 142kW turbo petrol would also come to Australia. It will not, so we have rewritten this story to match. For the full reveal, with photos of the new car inside and out, read our all-new Tucson feature.

Hybrid only, from mid 2027
Globally, the new Tucson is offered as a 1.6 litre turbo petrol, a hybrid and a plug-in hybrid. Australia gets the hybrid alone, pairing the 1.6 litre turbo engine with electric assistance. Hyundai Australia has not yet published local power, fuel use or towing figures, and the plug-in hybrid is not confirmed for us either.
XRT confirmed
The rugged XRT, with its own grille, a skid plate and chunkier wheel-arch trims, is confirmed for Australia. The more hardcore XRT PRO is North America only.
What it means for buyers
The current Tucson stays on sale until the new one lands, and buyers who want the petrol engine will need to buy the outgoing car. The new hybrid squares up to the Toyota RAV4, the Kia Sportage and the wave of Chinese hybrid SUVs crowding the medium class.
AU Outlook
Going hybrid only puts the Tucson head to head with the RAV4 on its home turf. The number that matters is the one Hyundai has not shared yet: local pricing. Hold your verdict until it lands, because a hybrid-only range will only bite if it matches the RAV4 on drive away.
